Members of local 77000, Carleton University Post-docs win big improvements
Members celebrate their new collective agreement with Carleton University which includes:
-Significant improvements on health, vision and dental benefits
-More coverage for health premium (70%)
-Professional Development Fund (largest in this sector)
-Free gym membership
-Tuition waiver (1 semester course per academic year)
-8% wage increase over 4yrs (2% each year, which is better than sector pattern and Carleton University pattern), and salary floor wage increase
“In many ways, this was a landmark agreement for this local and Bargaining Unit. We’ve achieved significant new gains for our members. One of the biggest wins is a large fund for professional development which is a high priority for post docs and will become a model for others in the PSAC academic sector and elsewhere. I am proud of the work we’ve accomplished with the local team," said Greg McGillis, Regional Executive Vice-President, PSAC-NCR.
“I am proud of the agreement we reached with Carleton University. It importantly focuses on needs that we have during the limited time we spend as a post-doc and supporting our members’ various aspirations for a fulfilling career afterward. With this agreement, we took a robust step forward for post-docs at Carleton and set an example for post-doc unions elsewhere,” said Donald Fowler, president of the Local.
