The federal government is launching an unprecedented attack against collective bargaining and health and safety rules in the workplace. Bill C-4 (the federal Budget Implementation Act) is:
- taking away our right to negotiate who performs an essential service (thereby determining who can strike)
- limiting arbitrators' independence and impartiality, and
- in some cases, abolishing the right to arbitration when there is an impasse at the bargaining table.
Bill C-4 also reduces considerably the health and safety protection in the workplace.
