Workers at the National Gallery of Canada Ratify New Contract

Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) working at the National Gallery of Canada have ratified a new four year contract covering the period starting retroactively in July 2013.

Key elements in the contract include:

  • annual increases of 1.75%, 1.5%, 2% and 1.5%.

  • one-time payout for all workers in exchange for elimination of voluntary departure severance clause

  • improvements to acting pay

  • inclusion of student workers in the collective agreement

“I want to thank all members of the local for supporting the bargaining team right to the end,” said David Bosschaart, president of PSAC local 70397 at the Gallery. “We couldn’t have done it without you.”

Larry Rousseau, PSAC’s Regional Executive Vice-President in the the National Capital Region, added that: “The National Gallery is an important public institution for all Canadians, and I’m happy that with this new contract, its workers can continue to help improve the Gallery and address its challenges.”

The parties began negotiations to renew the collective agreement in July 2013. The ratification vote was held on December 17. Approximately 175 PSAC members work at the gallery.
