What are your current role(s) in the union? Where do you work/what do you do?
My current role in the union is VP of Slots for Hard Rock Ottawa , where I have been a Technician for the last 20 years. I am a member of local 71201.
When did you first get involved in the union?
I first got involved about 8 or 9 years ago.
What is the most exciting or rewarding experience (s) about being involved in the union?
My favourite part about being involved in the union has been being on the bargaining team for the last collective which was just ratified. That is probably the most important thing I've been a part of. I like knowing that we, as a bargaining team, got the best deal possible for our fellow employees and I feel we left nothing on the table. It was a long negotiation that we worked hard on.
What was the most important achievement you’ve been a part of? Or goals you’d like to meet?
The most rewarding part is when people thank us for the work we put in to get them what we could. It's been really gratifying at how many people have recognized the work and understand that it's not an easy thing to do.
What would you say to others who are thinking about getting involved?
As for people who want to get involved, if you want change be a part of the change, make the change happen. If there are things you think could make the workplace better, get involved, the more help the easier it makes on everybody.
